GAVI Alliance (formerly Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization)

Address:
1776 I Street NW
Suite 600
Washington DC, DC 20006

Overview:

Of the more than 10 million children around the world who die before reaching their fifth birthday every year, 25% die from diseases that could have been prevented by currently available or new vaccines.

The GAVI Alliance is dedicated to eradicating preventable childhood diseases through the use of vaccines and immunizations. GAVI's efforts are critical to achieving the Millennium Development Goal on child health, which calls for reducing childhood mortality by two-thirds by 2015. It is estimated that more than 2.9 million lives have already been saved as a result of GAVI's work.

Launched in 2000 at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the GAVI Alliance includes among its partners: developing country governments, donor country governments, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, NGOs, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
